Her collection of charity items designed by Rob continues to grow and she describes two of her purchases below.

Tulip Plate Designed and Autographed by Rob Lowe

When Jesse told me in April this year that Rob had designed a plate to be auctioned in aid of the Canadian Parkinson's Society I knew that I had to have it, especially when I saw that the design was of a tulip. The tulip is one of my favourite flowers, and I had sent tulips to the Stage Door for Rob on several occasions when he appeared on stage in London in A Few Good Men so there was, once again, that additional level of meaning for me.

Nothing is ever straightforward, though, and the first hurdle to be overcome was to be awake and sitting at my computer by 5:30 a.m. as the auction was to end shortly thereafter (at what was a perfectly civilised time for Canada). I managed to do this without creating too much of a disturbance and although there was the usual last-minute bidding frenzy, I managed to win, much to my delight.

This all happened early in May, and I never dreamed that it wouldn't be until yesterday, July 4, that I finally received my plate. I'm delighted to say that despite its very long and tortuous journey, apparently by surface mail, it arrived in pristine condition and is nestling happily with my other Rob treasures, having finally "come home."

It means more to me than I can say to be the owner of this charming artefact which Rob created, and I'm very glad that my desire to own the plate has helped a very worthy cause.

Thank you, dearest Rob, for giving your time to charities in this way. You keep on producing these charming items, and I'll keep on acquiring them!

Denim Pocket Autographed by Rob Lowe
and Owned by Diane Schofield

In Autumn 2006, a friend sent me a link to a charity website in the U.S. Intrigued, I saw that Rob was participating in the Lee National Denim Day in aid of women's cancer charities in the U.S. He had designed and autographed a denim jeans pocket which was to be auctioned on a well-known site. In spite of my being in the UK, I used the bidding experience garnered on E-Bay to place what I hoped was a generous bid then tried to forget about it, thinking it was highly unlikely that I would be successful.

One night as I was fast asleep the phone rang by the bed, and, heart pounding, I answered it sleepily, to be told by a chirpy American voice that I had won the auction and could I confirm my address....clearly, this person wasn't familiar with overseas time differences!

A few days later, the courier delivered a box containing this lovely collage, which is now on prominent display in what is known by my long-suffering Other Half as "Diane's Den".

There is a special reason why I particularly wanted this item. It's not just that I have a very deep and abiding love and respect for Rob and all that he does. It is also that I, like Rob, lost my beloved mother to breast cancer late one November -- in fact precisely 2 days (and 30 years) before Rob's loss.

Thank you, Rob, for taking the time to design and donate this item in aid of a cause which is close to both our hearts. And thank you, too, for all the joy you've brought to my life.
