The Ryder Cup is golf's biggest team tournament -
and the third largest sporting spectacle after the Olympics and soccer's World
Cup in terms of television audience - but this Sunday and Monday sees a golf
event with a difference take place over Celtic Manor's Roman Road course. |

The differences are obvious, but the All Star Cup
has one obvious similarity with the Ryder Cup as teams from Europe and America
will be desperate to put one over their opponents. And while the golf from celebrities like Wales and Lions rugby star Gavin Henson and former Dallas soap actor Patrick Duffy may be less than perfect, they will benefit from some expert advice from non-playing captains and rival stars of the real Ryder Cup, Colin Montgomerie and Mark O'Meara. There is also every indication that the players will be taking the gathering of points for their respective sides very seriously. Jones added, "We've had Gavin Henson up here for lessons and Jodie Kidd, the model, has had a couple of rounds on the Roman Road in preparation for the event. From what I've heard, they're all really up for it. Of course, they're also anxious not to make fools of themselves on Sky TV and in front of the crowds." | |||
"Following tomorrow's day of practice, there will
be a gala dinner at Celtic Manor's five-star hotel which will include a charity
auction of lots donated by each of the 20 competing celebrities. They include
Michael Douglas' notated script from "Disclosure" and a silver cast of the boots
worn by Gavin Henson to slot the winning penalty against England in this year's
Six Nations. |
