FUN WITH PARKS & RECREATION

I have run 10 miles a day, every day, for 18 years.

That’s 65,000 miles. A third of the way to the moon.

My goal is to run to the moon.

Scientists believe that the first human being who will live 150 years has already been born. I believe I am that human being.

I need someone to be here when I take my multi-vitamin.

There’s a choking hazard.

ROB LOWE PROMOTED TO
PARKS & RECREATION REGULAR

Pawnee just got a whole lot prettier!

During Friday morning's Television Critics Association Press Tour, NBC bigwigs Angela Bromstad and Jeff Gaspin kicked things off with the announcement of Rob Lowe's big Parks and Recreation promotion.

After popping by Indiana's most famous city service department this spring, Rob Lowe will be back full-time when(ever) Parks and Recreation returns ~~ and fingers crossed that's soon!

His auditing cohort Adam Scott (fresh off his Party Down cancellation) has already been promoted to series regular, so based on the manner in which these two entered the world of Pawnee, things are not looking good for Leslie Knope (Amy Poehler) and her beloved job.

That said, maybe Rob's guy Chris Traeger sticking around will mean a much-needed love interest for Rashida Jones' Ann...just sayin'.

ROB COMES TO PAWNEE!

Rob Lowe will be a full-time cast member on the comedy series Parks and Recreation on its upcoming third season after guest-starring as state auditor Chris Traeger, NBC said in a statement on Friday, while the actor will also appear on Californication.

"I am beyond thrilled that Rob will be joining the cast for more episodes," said Mike Schur, co-creator and executive producer. "I have truly come to value his fashion sense, grooming habits and workout tips. Also, he is hilarious, and adds a wonderful dimension to the cast.  But really, it's the workout tips."

The comedy series, which is set to return in the mid-season of 2010-11, showcases the lives of public officials of an Indiana town. It debuted in 2009 and stars Amy Poehler of Saturday Night Live and Rashida Jones of The Office. Lowe left the ABC drama series Brothers & Sisters after the May finale of its fourth season after starring as regular cast member Robert McCallister.

Parks and Recreation is nominated for two Emmys at this year's awards on August 29. Brothers & Sisters has not received a nod but series star Sally Field received an Outstanding Lead Actress in a Drama Series Emmy Award in 2007. Brothers & Sisters returns for a fifth season on September 26, 2010.

Lowe, 46, began his acting career in the late 1970s, starring in the show A New Kind of Family and ABC Afterschool Specials. He later went on to play bad boy Billy Hicks in the cult 1985 film St. Elmo's Fire with the "Brat Pack" of the 1980s, which includes Emilio Estevez, Judd Nelson, Demi Moore and Ally Sheedy.

Lowe also played a villain in the comedy films Wayne's World in 1992 and Tommy Boy in 1995. About a decade ago, he returned to television and played Sam Seaborn in the Emmy-winning series The West Wing and Dr. Billy Grant in dr. vegas.

He is set to guest-star on the upcoming fourth season of the Showtime series Californication. His character, Eddie Nero, is an actor who wants to play the role of David Duchovny's Hank Moody in a movie adaptation of his book.

"Shooting season finale of Californication  next 2 days," Lowe Tweeted earlier this month. "Hank Moody and Eddie Nero; the new, demented Butch and Sundance! 13 page scene, huge speeches, 95 degree heat; wicked jet lag. Yesssssss!"

Lowe is also said to be working on his first memoir called Stories I Only Tell My Friends and the book is set to be released in May 2011.

WHAT THEY'RE SAYING.....

I knew going into his stint on the show that Rob Lowe can be funny, but this may be the most I've ever enjoyed him. They've moved Chris right up to the edge of cartoon and Lowe is embracing that with his goofy running style and his shameless pandering whenever Chris has to pass the baton to bad cop Ben.

Through two episodes with guest stars Adam Scott and Rob Lowe and the latter is stealing the show. Again, Scott is being completely under-utilized as a dull straight man, considering the hilarious comedy chops he showed in Step Brothers.

Lowe's character reminds me of his Benjamin from Wayne's World on cocaine. Between his "goal to run to the moon," pointing at Ann Perkins every time he sees her, and telling Ron to "focus up buddy" when he stopped massaging for two seconds, Lowe's Chris should definitely stick around in Pawnee.

Both series creators Michael Schur and Greg Daniels admitted that Rob Lowe's Sam Seaborn character was actually an inspiration for the series, that their goal was to make a funny The West Wing and that the casting of Lowe was a nice way of honoring their inspiration.

"I only play public servants," stated Lowe. "It's great. I had always liked the world when I watched it. I would say to my wife, 'I would like to be on a show like that'. The universe works in really weird ways and I learn that about every ten years in my career, so here I am and it feels really good."

In one extended episode, Retta Sirleaf's character, Donna, has a crush on actor Ralph Macchio and a lot of Ralph Macchio references were made.

Lowe, a friend and former co-star with Macchio from the Francis Ford Coppola classic The Outsiders had this to say on the subject. "Ralph Macchio is totally down with the whole thing. His Outsiders homey is checking in, it makes him very happy," joked Lowe. "We have a Facebook only group for Outsiders alumnus's."

CAN ANY CREDITS DO JUSTICE
TO A SUPERSTAR LIKE ROB LOWE ON
PARKS & RECREATION

nymag.com
May 13, 2010

The Incredibly Handsome Rob Lowe makes his debut on Parks and Recreation tonight, and the early reviews are upbeat.

But executive producer Mike Schur faced a major dilemma once Lowe actually agreed to appear alongside Amy Poehler on the NBC comedy: Just how do you properly credit a star of Lowe's magnitude?

Do you use "Very Special Guest Star", as Heather Locklear was dubbed when she joined Melrose Place? Please, that is an insult!

The man falls somewhere between the sun and a supernova on the star-brightness scale; his very presence on Parks threatens to cause plasma screens across this great nation to explode out of their inability to handle his radiance.

He demands more!

So how did Schur settle this impossible show-business dilemma?

"The credit will read 'And introducing Rob Lowe'," Schur revealed to Vulture, adding that Lowe loved the idea when he heard it.

Because Lowe actually does have a few credits to his name, Schur had to check with all manner of lawyers and assorted other suits to make sure this very clever mini-joke wouldn't violate some labor agreement or set a dangerous precedent that would forever alter TV land. Thankfully, nobody objected, and the joke will stand. No word on how they would credit Jabba the Hutt.

ON PARKS & RECREATION, ROB LOWE'S
BACK IN THE FUNNY BUSINESS

This Sunday, say goodbye to Rob Lowe as the season finale of Brothers and Sisters airs. But tonight, say hello to Lowe when he joins NBC’s Parks and Recreation (8:30 p.m. ET) in a very different role.

So long, angsty storylines and cancer-battling wife! Time for goofball humor, and a role as an impossibly upbeat bureaucrat who’s never fully dressed without a smile!

"He is the most positive person in the world and he is also very, very intense and specific," Lowe told Zap2it.com. "So whether he is describing the way he wants his water, or the kind of colors he wants on a graph, everything means the world to him."

On the hit sitcom, Lowe will play an auditor hired to slash the budget (i.e. fire people) at Pawnee’s Parks and Recreation dept. But while his gloomy sidekick, Ben (Adam Scott) does the actual dirty work, Chris’ function is to put a pretty face on it.

And that face is (at least partly) how Lowe got the gig.

"He's the world's handsomest male,” Parks exec producer Mike Schur told The Wrap. “He's like a very bright beam of light...We wrote a line for Amy [Poehler] in Rob's first episode in which she says that she accidentally looked into his eyes and it was like staring at the sun."

But Schur is quick to point out that Lowe won’t be leaning on his looks. "He fits in because he's being really funny," said Schur. “Some of the fans have expressed fears that he won't fit into the world [of Pawnee]. But I think those fears will be allayed when they see him. He's handsomer than everyone else, but he's also happy to be part of a large ensemble.”

In fact, according to Lowe, he loves the character precisely because he’s not a romantic lead. "He’s a big, fat nerd," he said. "And I’m loving it."

The star ~~ who was once cast in the 1983 sex farce Class and cracked up Austin Powers fans as a young Robert Wagner ~~ also loves the chance to do comedy again. “On this show...the acting tone is very specific,” Lowe explained. “And I always felt, watching it, that that’s the kind of show I’d like to be on. I used to watch The Office and Parks and Recreation and say, ‘I can do that’. You never know what the universe is going to offer up to you, and so here I am.”

ROB ON ELLEN!!

PARKS & RECREATION: ROB LOWE ON
HITTING PAWNEE AND ITS ROMANTIC POSSIBILITIES

Zap2It.com
May 10, 2010

It's a big week for Rob Lowe.

His final episode of Brothers & Sisters airs Sunday, but he's a guest on The Ellen Show on Thursday, May 13, 2010, and premieres on Parks & Recreation later that night as Chris, the state auditor.

Lowe says the move between the drama and the comedy is "a mindblower" for him. His character, Chris, couldn't be any more different than Robert, the confident U.S. senator on Brothers & Sisters.

According to Lowe, Chris is a total nerd and somewhat anal about how he wants things. Despite that, Chris has, well, Rob Lowe good looks. The actor hints that there may be a romantic play for the show's most sought after volunteer, Rashida Jones' Ann (of course).

Rob and Amy Poehler in Parks & Recreation

The exiting Brothers & Sisters actor joins the NBC comedy next month as one of two state employees (the other being Party Down‘s Adam Scott) brought in to fix Pawnee’s budgetary crisis.

Executive producer Michael Schur likens it to “an action movie where the FBI shows up and the local cops say, "This is our jurisdiction! And the FBI says, ‘Not anymore!’”

But Lowe’s character, Chris Traeger, wins everyone over with his “very optimistic, positive, forward-thinking” attitude, explains Schur, who hints that he “very quickly falls into a romantic entanglement” with one of the locals. “I don’t want to spoil who it is because it’s kind of a surprise.”

ROB TALKS ABOUT
PARKS AND RECREATION

Rob's new role on the show, Parks and Recreation, is coming up on NBC very shortly. We'll first see him in character as Chris on May 13, 2010 with a second episode (the last of the season) being shown on May 20, 2010.
